SEnote / REnote
In few words
SEnote and REnote are respectively a MIDI instrument and a MIDI effect which establish a communication between a master MIDI controller and Live’s instruments.
SEnote sends MIDI notes.
It let’s you to assign a note or a chord to any key of your MIDI keyboard or, as I do, to your MIDI pad. It doesn’t make any sound. It just sends midi notes.
REnote receives MIDI notes.
Place it at the beginning of your Live instrument and match the source number with the one you chose for the SEnote’s messages.
That’s it.. more or less.
What the hell are you using it for?
Using Ableton Live with MIDI controllers for live performances at some point can lead you to grow big sets filled with tons of instruments and effects.
That’s what happen to me every time, since I love to use drum racks and to control them with my M-Audio trigger finger. I’m used to copy and paste as many copies as I need of a particular instrument on each slot and to assign to each slot a note so I don’t have to move on a entire keyboard and I have only the notes that I really need to play my song.
Unfortunately the CPU doesn’t like this process very much and I often see the usage percentage jumping between 70% and 90%…
With the SEnote / REnote combination my CPU is working definitely much better and the audio result is better too!

SEnote – each white square correspond to a MIDI note in. The first number sets the communication channel; the other three the notes to send.

REnote – set the source channel and the following instrument will receive only those notes.
